The Creative Arts Therapy Summer School is designed for individuals within Chicago Public School Cluster programs and other school programs throughout the city of Chicago and local suburbs.

ITA is seeking a total of 7 volunteers. Volunteers work under the supervision of our Program Management and therapy team. The volunteer’s role is to enhance our school program experience for children with neurodevelopmental disabilities and other mental health needs.

These volunteers will assist with the school art or music therapy program including direct intervention, crafts, material preparation, room set-up, coordinating and assisting with lunch and snacks, bathroom breaks, and basic participant support.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Volunteer will comply with safety and security directives, policies and procedures.
  • Volunteers may be asked to perform other summer school program duties as assigned.
  • Volunteer will be asked to commit to as many as 5 weeks from July 5 th through August 3 rd. Days/Times include Monday - Friday, often 8:30-1:30pm. Some programs may have afternoon sessions. Our goal is for each volunteer to commit to at least 50% of the available time.
  • Volunteers must also be able to attend a 1X 4-hour inperson or virtual training prior to the program.
  • Volunteer will notify ITA staff of any change in schedule with at least 48 hours’ notice.
  • Volunteer will arrive at the scheduled time, follow schedule as given and leave as scheduled. Any changes to the schedule must be cleared with the program management.

Minimum requirements:

  • Volunteer must be energetic and enthusiastic about working with children and teens.
  • Volunteer must act with maturity and professionalism.
  • Volunteer should be comfortable interacting with participants with a variety of diagnosis, teachers, and SECAs/Paraprofessionals.
  • Volunteer should be able to occasionally work outdoors in summer weather conditions, walk in a variety of terrains, and able to stand for at least 4 hours.
  • Volunteer should be comfortable learning how to utilize basic therapeutic support techniques for children, and teens.
  • Volunteer must have reliable transportation to the program location.
  • Volunteer must be at least 18 years of age.

The summer programs will tentatively run from 8:30am - 1:30pm on Mondays - Fridays, from July 6 th through August 3 rd, 2023. Some programs may have afternoon sessions.
