Notre Dame Mission Volunteers, AmeriCorps (NDMVA) is seeking applicants to serve as a Full-time AmeriCorps Member at "I Have A Dream" Foundation in Newark, NJ from September 2023-July 2024.

IHDFNJ has a comprehensive partnership with the 13th Ave/Dr. MLK Jr. School in the West Ward of Newark. Working alongside and in support of the school’s administration and current community partners, IHDFNJ’s goal is to identify and understand the needs of 13th Ave students and their families so that we may contribute long-term social and academic support.

Responsibilities:

  • Collect student data, such as; date of birth, parent/guardian info, etc.
  • Take attendance for each after school grade PreK-2nd.
  • Separate lunches for each class.
  • Assist PD, Lead Teachers, and/or Team Assistants with any needed supplies.
  • Create and print out attendance sheets, sign out sheets, day school transition sheets, master class attendance, etc.
  • Take attendance of students in class.
  • Follow the schedule of your class with the Lead Teacher.
  • Assist students with any homework or any activity they may be doing.
  • Do read alouds and create follow up activities for each story.
  • Communicate with Lead Teacher, other Team Assistants and students.
  • Assist with recruitment and registration of expanded learning programming, including creating flyers, outreach to parents and students.
  • Assist Program Director with identifying support services for families; food, shelter, counseling, and other pertinent resources.
  • Communication; ensuring open communications with IHDFNJ Program Director, school administration, in-school and local community partners ,researching grant opportunities that support programming, assist with compiling report data, and management of staff timesheets.

AmeriCorps Member Benefits:

  • Living Allowance: Because Notre Dame- AmeriCorps is partnered with the Corporation for National and Community Service, we are able to offer our members a yearly living allowance which is distributed bi-weekly over the 11 months term. The pre-tax figure for 2023-2024 is approx. $18,000.
  • The Education Award: Upon completion of a service term, AmeriCorps members receive a taxable education award of $6,895. The education award can be applied to qualified student loans or future education.
  • Student Loan Forbearance: Members of NDA are eligible for forbearance of federal student loans during their term of service. This means that while a member is serving, he or she does not make payments on his or her qualifying loans. In addition, the National Trust will pay the interest that accrues on the loan at the end of the term of service.   • Optional Health Insurance: We provide optional healthcare while you serve with NDA.
  • Child Care: NDA members may also be eligible for child care benefits. The AmeriCorps Child Care Program covers up to the state’s local market rate for child care fees and makes payments directly to the member’s caregiver.
