The United Nations Association of the USA, Northern New Jersey Chapter is a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to building understanding of and support for the ideals and work of the UN among the American people. Its education, policy and advocacy programs emphasize the importance of cooperation among nations and the need for American leadership at the UN. Through discussions, partnerships, and action-oriented initiatives, UNA-NNJ offers its members a platform for education, advocacy, professional development in international affairs, and the opportunity to volunteer in international service. The group consists of diverse professionals from the fields of business, law, public service, healthcare and the media.

The Development Director - Signature Events supports the board's fundraising efforts including sponsorship procurement, donor cultivation and engagement, and stewardship efforts.

Responsibilities and Time Commitment

  • The UNA-NNJ board meets every other month to plan and report on activities for about 1-2 hours on a weekend afternoon (starting at 12 p.m. or 1:30 p.m.). Meetings are conducted in-person month and generally take place on the first Saturday of the month.
  • Board members are expected to participate, as appropriate, in discussions/decision-making process that takes place by e-mail in between monthly Board meetings.
  • Board Members are expected to attend at least half of the UNA NNJ Chapter events produced by fellow colleagues.
  • Board Members are expected to submit and present reports at monthly Board meetings.

Description and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing a fundraising plan for a limited number of smaller fundraising events and one centerpiece fundraising event.
  • Responsible for coordinating fundraising efforts and to help promote the event(s).
  • Responsible for recruiting and managing a committee to help with the organization and execution of an event.
  • Responsible for marketing plans on upcoming fundraising events.
  • Use data and feedback from our membership base and Board members to determine which United Nations goals and charitable efforts we should be focusing our fundraising on.
  • Working within a manageable budget for events.
  • Securing a venue and event space, possibly auction items, vendors like food and photography, and securing event sponsors.
  • Working with the Finance Director to promote sustainable growth in fundraising events so that there is continuity year over year and growth in overall donations.
