ORGANIZATION: Asian American Senior Citizens Service Center (AASCSC)

  • 18 people are interested

AASCSC has a leadership and volunteerism program for youths ages 12-17 years old. As part of this program, we also have young adult volunteers who assist with planning/leading monthly meetings, program administration, providing mentorship to our youth members, and more. This program is intended to be a learning experience for both our youth members and our young adult volunteers.

NOTE: This application is for prospective adult volunteers for our YAL program. Youth (ages 12-17) who are interested in joining the YAL program should go to this link: bit.ly/yal-signup

All adult volunteers (regardless of their role) are expected to attend at least 1 monthly meeting per quarter (every 3 months), unless their role specifies a higher expectation. Monthly meetings are generally on the 2nd Saturday of each month from 10am-12pm and in-person at our center (850 N Birch St, Santa Ana, CA 92701).

Below is a description of the roles that we have for young adult volunteers:

Administrative Support - a lot of things happen behind the scenes (mostly online) in order to help our youths have a smooth experience including tracking attendance, volunteer hours, making sure new members have access to all the right things, and more. This role could be right for you if you want to contribute from the comforts of your home (or anywhere with a computer/internet), you have an interest in program administration/logistics, and/or if you enjoy detail-orientated work.

Youth Activities - this role helps us plan the monthly YAL meeting to make sure that our youths have an enjoyable (and educational) experience. Additionally, for the safety of our youths, this role also helps us provide adult supervision at a variety of YAL events/activities. This role could be right for you if you have weekend availability (this is when most of our activities happen) and if you enjoy interacting directly with youths. This role is expected to attend at least 80% of our monthly in-person YAL meetings each year.

Youth Community Opportunities - a big value of our YAL program is the opportunity that we provide for our youths to volunteer and engage with the community, but those opportunities don't just appear magically! This role would help us find different opportunities (and organizations) in the community that we can partner with to bring a variety of volunteer opportunities to our youths. This role could be right for you if you like to do internet research, you have knowledge of the local community, and/or you enjoy reaching out to new groups/organizations.

Interested young adults should apply here. You will be scheduled for a 15-30 minute phone/video call with the YAL program supervisor after we receive your submission so that we can learn more about you and provide more details.

For questions, comments, or concerns:
please contact Roy Ho (YAL Program Supervisor) at roy.ho@aascsc.org or by phone at 949-297-6866.
