Recruiting Organization: Feerick Center for Social Justice of Fordham Law School

Service Description: Fordham Law School’s Feerick Center for Social Justice (FC) partners with Legal Assistance of Western New York, Inc. (LawNY) and shares resources to work with law students, alumni, and a broad range of partners on anti-poverty efforts. FC’s Manhattan office hosts two VISTA Attorney Emeritus Program (AEP) Downstate Coordinators.

The FC administers the Attorney Emeritus Program (AEP) on behalf of the NYS Unified Court System. The Greater NYC AEP Coordinator places senior attorneys with legal services organizations to provide pro bono assistance to low-income New Yorkers with unmet civil legal needs. The VISTA is involved in all aspects of program development and implementation. The VISTA will partner with a second FC AEP VISTA and work collaboratively with the Upstate NY AEP VISTA to support the Program statewide. The VISTA will also help to continue to develop and implement the Racial Justice Model Practices Initiative (RJMPI), which promotes anti-racist and diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in volunteer management and pro bono services. This position is a part of a 7-member VISTA cadre at FC and 2 Project Sites.

VISTAs serving at the Feerick Center must live within commuting distance (1.5 hrs) of Manhattan, NY before their service start date. This position employs a hybrid model with at least three days in the office at Fordham School of Law. This model is subject to change during your term of service as per the Feerick Center’s requirements.

Member Duties: Develop and implement volunteer recruitment; engage in retention, coordination, and recognition strategies; draft communications materials; plan events; manage data collection and tracking mechanisms. Ideal candidates have strong data and volunteer management skills, can work collaboratively with diverse staff and volunteers, and possess strong organizational, writing, oral communication and technology skills.

The VISTA will have monthly check-ins with FC senior staff, weekly program meetings with FC and LawNY senior staff, bi-monthly FC staff meetings, monthly professional development workshops, mid-monthly presentations led by the VISTA Leader, and opportunities to attend various academic programs and training sessions.
