ORGANIZATION: Idealist.org

Recruiting Organization: Feerick Center for Social Justice of Fordham Law School

Service Description : Plan now for your first post-college job. This position is an opportunity to ignite or explore a legal career. As the Pro Bono Initiatives Project VISTA, you will work with our legal team and partners in the field to create, maintain, and promote online legal training and community education materials to help pro bono students and lawyers better serve the public. Our online platforms improve access to justice by supporting communication and understanding of the law for volunteers, promoting pro bono work, and helping people in under-paid and vulnerable communities solve civil legal problems.

You'll be part of a 7 member VISTA cadre at Fordham Law School’s Feerick Center for Social Justice (FC). In addition to the camaraderie and network the team brings, you will also have monthly check-ins with the Feerick Center Executive Director, weekly program meetings with senior staff, monthly professional development workshops led by the VISTA Leader, and if you are local, the opportunities to attend NYC networking and training events. This role is for someone who has research and analysis skills, creativity, initiative, follow through, and can also work effectively and closely with a team.

Member Duties : The VISTA will expand and assist efforts to provide free legal information and pro bono support to under-paid, underserved community members across New York State. You will work to support model practices for engaging legal volunteers and reaching marginalized communities, through partnerships and online tools. This includes working on webinars, conducting podcast interviews with legal experts, creating community education flyers for pro bono students and lawyers to use and distribute, updating key site content and a nonprofit / pro bono legal directory, researching and mapping resources and strategies, and, reaching more prospective volunteers and community members through social media. The primary goal of the project is to welcome pro bono students and legal volunteers into the field and help them develop a career-long dedication to volunteering or working for justice. This is a remote (off-site) position, with an option to join our New York City office location when it reopens.

Program Benefits: Non-Competitive Eligibility status for federal jobs upon successful completion of service , Relocation Allowance (if eligible) , Health Benefit* , Living Allowance , Unlimited MetroCard when in-person , Choice of Education Award or End of Service Stipend , Childcare assistance if eligible .
