If you are reading this, I just want to begin with a huge thank you! From the bottom of our hearts we are happy that you have an interest in helping those who are in need. We are currently looking for volunteers to help us pack bags and distribute the packed bags to those who attend The Red Door Food Pantry. Volunteers work at the pantry when it is open on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 8:30am-11:15am.

As a volunteer you will be need to be okay with standing on your feet for a couple of hours and be comfortable with bending and twisting. We all work together as we set out the food for the month and pack the brown paper bags so that they can be given out to each family/individual who comes to the giveaway.

The doors open at 10am for those who wish to receive food and the doors close at 11:15am. During those 75 minutes we distribute around 100+ bags that are all carried out to the client’s vehicle or if they are walking we help load their carts. Dressing appropriately for the weather is always important since we do have to walk outside. We also have positions outside at our produce station that is open for 9 months out of the year.

The remaining pantry dates for the year are 09/21, 10/19, 11/16, 12/21

Please feel free to volunteer at the pantry during any dates that work well with your schedule even if it's just once. We appreciate all of the help we receive.

We at St John’s Episcopal Church aim to help the food and hunger crisis in The Mahoning Valley. The Red Door Food Pantry serves over 55 families each month in Youngstown, Ohio by offering fresh produce and dry goods to those in need.

REQUIREMENTS

  • This is a Done in a Day opportunity and there is no prior training or ongoing commitment needed.
  • Must be at least 18
  • We have a food giveaway every 3rd Saturday of the month at St. John’s Episcopal Church. We begin at 8:30am and the doors close at 11:15am.
  • Bending and lifting are required but we do have wagons and carts to help carry the food to the families vehicles. The bags of food weigh approximately 5-10 pounds depending on what is put in them each month. You may need to help set up folding tables
