We are seeking volunteers to join our Food pantry team!
On Fridays (Delivery/Prep day) we have three shifts.
Between 9 AM - 12 PM , volunteers will help bring in deliveries for our food pantry. We need volunteers who are able to assist in stocking shelves and carrying in boxes and produce sacks. Volunteers for this shift must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Between 10-2 PM , volunteers will sanitize crates and bins, bag bread and frozen meat, and occasionally separate produce. This will not require heavy lifting.
From 2-4:30 PM , volunteers will prepare bags for distribution. Volunteers will form an assembly line and fill bags with food items that we will distribute the next day.
Our History:
Cabrini Immigrant Services Food Pantry relocated from the Lower East Side to the Upper West Side in April of 2022. We are very proud to have served the Chinatown community faithfully for twenty years. By the end, we were providing approximately thirty pounds of healthy food (half the bag was comprised of fresh produce and frozen meat) to approximately a thousand clients every month.
Partnering with Church of the Good Shepherd, we have started over on the Upper West Side to serve the Inwood and Washington Heights community. There is a great need here, and the Cabrini Immigrant Services Food Pantry needs a lot of help to get back to where we were--and even expand. We are currently serving up to three hundred and fifty families each week with an eye to do more. Please contact us to be a part of our mission to serve our neighbors.

Sanitizing crates, bagging food, and other tasks. Does not require lifting.

Description
Cabrini Immigrant Services is a community and faith-based agency located in the Lower East Side/Chinatown area of Manhattan. CIS-NYC provides a broad range of legal and social services to low-income immigrants, refugees and their families. We are able to meet the needs of immigrant populations through both supportive and concrete services that encourage economic independence and social empowerment, foster individual growth and development, and promote self-determination for immigrants and their families. Since its inception in 1999, CIS-NYC has served all persons regardless of age, race, ethnicity, country of origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or immigration status.

- We are looking for people willing to commit from 9 AM - noon on Fridays to do heavy lifting, 10 AM - 1 PM for prep work, OR 2-4:30 PM to help bag food. If you're available for only part of the period, let us know!
