MSW students will gain valuable experience while providing terminally ill patients and their families with psychological and social support, under the guidance of a VITAS MSW field instructor and team manager. Students will serve as members of the VITAS interdisciplinary patient care teams while assisting patients and families in accessing community resources and governmental benefits and assessing patient and family needs and potential crisis situations. Students also will help patients and families identify grief issues and provide bereavement services.

VITAS MSW student interns must be enrolled in a Master of Social Work program at an accredited college or university. All MSW student interns must attend new-employee orientation, which includes shadowing VITAS care providers, during the first month of the internship.
