This opportunity is for young ladies and gentlemen between the ages of 12 and 16 who have the ability to commute to Newark on Saturdays (1pm to 4pm). For those who need community service hours, please check with your individual schools to see if this opportunity qualifies you for credit. However, we serve as an ongoing professional reference for students who complete a season.
THIS IS AN ABBREVIATED SEASON: MARCH TO JUNE. There is an opportunity to return next season if you are interested.
SoulPhamm is a new, nonprofit organization that provides sports and arts activities for young people in New Jersey and New York City. You can learn more about us by visiting www.soulphamm.org.
We are a brand-new program and have not recruited many participants yet. As an ambassador, you will help us build our team by actually becoming part of the competitive basketball team. You will represent SoulPhamm in tournaments and high visibility sporting events helping us develop a reputation for being a high energy, competitive team. You will also assist struggling players and assist with conducting warm-ups and drills.
Practice will be every Saturday at the Newark YMCA Gymnasium (600 Broad Street, Newark, NJ). All you need is workout attire (a tshirt, sweats, shorts, sneakers). It is okay if you have never been on a basketball team before. We anticipate that all of our competitions and performances would also be held on Saturdays.
Once you reach out, we will send more information about the first day of the program. We will give you paperwork for your parent to complete and sign. We can also give you a form at your first practice if you do not have a printer. This is a unique and fun way for you to serve your community, helping grow an organization that will serve young people just like you!

Description
Our vision is to promote virtue, equity, unity, justice, faith, charity and a sense of common purpose and brotherhood among all people with an emphasis on the development and advancement of young people through education, athletics, service and the arts.
SoulPhamm was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in the state of New Jersey on June 25, 2021 and is the "birth-child" of Coach Luis ("Lou") and Dr. Leisa Herrera ("Mz. Doc"). The organization exists to provide training to young people in a variety of sports and performing arts and unique opportunities to display those talents through competition and performance. By integrating mentoring, life skills, opportunities for community service and academic enrichment to the athletic/artistic program, we help make our scholar-athletes as well-rounded as possible, capable of meeting and overcoming any challenges they are faced with. Although Coach Lou passed away suddenly in January 2021, the official launch of SoulPhamm was held on June 26, 2021, which coincided with his birthday weekend. SoulPhamm will recognize its own founding, as well as the achievements of our young people every year on the fourth Saturday of June, as a tribute to the life and legacy of Coach Lou.
