ORGANIZATION: Idealist.org

Recruiting Organization: Partners for Youth with Disabilities

We are looking for caring adults to serve as mentors for young people ages 6-24 with disabilities. Our goal in our one-to-one mentoring program, is to empower young people with disabilities to meet their full potential by matching them with a caring adult mentor, who serves as a role model and a friend. The relationship formed between the mentor and mentee has proven invaluable in improving the social and intellectual development and independence of youth and the experience is equally rewarding to the mentors! Initially, our matches are expected to commit to one year, and meet in person for at least 4 to 6 hours a month, and are in touch on a weekly basis by phone or email. Mentors can meet with their mentees on weekdays AND weekends, depending on their schedules. Please note, in light of COVID-19, the in person requirement is currently waived and all programming is virtual until further notice. Mentors may choose to meet with their mentees in person at their own discretion. At this moment we have about 60 young people waiting to be paired with mentors. This is a one-of-a-kind volunteer mentoring opportunity and we hope to welcome you as a mentor!
