BECAUSE OF THE CURRENT Inflation rate and the recent end of additional FOOD Benefits for Covid Pandemic, many families are now food in-secure. We serve 550-650 households per week with food and that number is climbing. We are already 136% higher than the same period in 2022.
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED to make sure families eat, and that individuals - especially elderly and persons experiencing homelessness - have access to essential food basics.
On 1st, 3rd and when it happens 5th Mondays -
WE Work inside our Hall at 6' separations to bag food - including fresh fruits/vegetables, dried goods like rice, beans, peas, frozen items like meat or iced treats, and canned goods -
into bags for clients, where we use hand sanitizer first then wearing mask and gloves for the entire process. We will sanitize tables coming off the truck as we open them up, to limit cross-contaminization.
Second and Fourth Mondays - We unload the Mobile Food Pantry truck of foods - and open the packaging, all wearing gloves. Most items are pre-package during this COVID-19 crisis, so we simply assemble bags and boxes and get them onto the table for pick-up by participants.
NOTE: 2nd/4th Mondays SHIFT OPTIONS:
10:30-4 pm - FULL packing groceries and distribution
1:30 or before 2 pm through 5 pm - packing groceries, distribution and Clean-Up
2:45 - 5 pm - Clean Up

For DISTRIBUTION, We work with air ventilation, often outside and inside.
PLEASE IDENTIFY WHICH SHIFT fits you. We need the most people starting at 10:30 am, but recognize school & work schedules may get in the way!

Description
CENTRAL: A small, energetic community working in English + bilingually to empower our neighbors in Van Nuys through love and grace to be who God has made them to be.
Our vision: We want to be people who accept and live in God's grace, who follow Jesus Christ, and who serve others.
January 1929 Central was a mission outreach & became a vital part of serving a wide range of needs through the depression and post-war Van Nuys. It flourished in the 50's-70's but lost its connection with mission, so dwindled.
NOW, for 15 years, hosted homeless services agencies & opened worship to marginalized folk, experiencing loneliness, disconnectedness, & personal trauma.
TODAY: Core of folks serve both persons experiencing poverty & hunger among the housed neighbors + persons experiencing homelessness.

- Must be able to stand for the time of the program, about 5 hours; canopies available for heat outside during distribution, with seats for rest breaks.
