The mission of Breastfeed Orange NC is to foster a more breastfeeding family friendly community by advocating for policies and practices that support breastfeeding, chestfeeding, and human milk feeding, using a Ten Steps approach that complements the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF guidelines.
Breastfeed Orange NC is a community-wide program to impact health equity. We advocate for chest/breastfeeding and human milk feeding policies & practices in healthcare, childcare, and education in our community. We offer resources & assistance to employers to provide lactation policies for employees. We celebrate the work of our local governments and the whole community to provide a welcoming environment that supports families to initiate chest/breastfeeding and to continue for as long as the family desires. Goals for Government: promote signage and verify that employee, emergency preparedness, and community policies are chest/breastfeeding supportive; Goals for Healthcare: support healthcare clinics & offices to achieve the local Clinic Award; Goals for Businesses: reach out to Orange County businesses to sign on to the Community Partner & Employer award; Goals for Education: work with childcare programs and local school districts to include books & curricula to normalize chest/breastfeeding for students of all ages. Help build a healthier, more welcoming community for families.
