About: Mighty Writers (MW) teaches kids 3-17 to think clearly and write with clarity so they can achieve success at school, at work and in life.
At our sites in Philadelphia, Chester County and New Jersey, and through virtual programming and partnerships with schools and community organizations, we focus on amplifying and empowering the voices of our students while providing free high-quality, community-oriented writing programs. As a result, grades improve, self-esteem soars and futures come into view.
Our approach is focused on the whole child. That’s why we also provide food and essential resources at many of our sites. After all, kids can’t think and write when they’re hungry. Now, in addition to our after-school, out-of-school and summer writing programs, we offer daily distribution of diapers, period products, books, clothing, school supplies and groceries - all given away for free.
Given the challenges our students face, we utilize mindfulness and Social-Emotional Learning to teach kids to be emotionally resilient, cultivate their inner strength and foster their overall sense of well-being. Mighty Writers develops unique and enriching communities; champions the stories of diverse youth writers; and drives each student to reach their maximum potential.
We are seeking 12 Vista Associates who will support program development, organization-wide processes and assist with our education and distribution efforts.

Mission Statement
Think clearly and write with clarity is our battle cry, our tagline, our mantra. It's served as our mission statement since our launch in 2009.
Description
MW North was originally launched in 2015 in collaboration with the Church of the Advocate, an institutional leader in civil rights advocacy in North Philadelphia. We now occupy a large, well-lit writing center in the new Vaux Family Center. Big Picture High School is in the same building (the old Vaux High School), but you need not attend the high school to participate in our programs. Kids from all over North Philly attend workshops at MW North. All are welcome!
