The MetroWest Free Medical Program has been providing free care to uninsured and underinsured patients since 2004. Our services include Adult medicine, Women's Health and Vision Care. We are a critical part of the patient safety net west of Boston. The majority of our patients are of Brazilian descent, are non-English speaking, and have difficult accessing health care.

The Scribe will provide a key role in direct medical care with volunteer physicians and nurses during an exciting, dynamic, and transformative time as the organization adopts AthenaNet for its clinical workflow and electronic health records, strengthens the short-term case management and specialty referral services, and builds its capacity to add Telehealth to support patient care. The MWFMP has attained the Gold Level Certification but the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics. The MWFMP engages over 80 volunteers and a team of six part-time staff, including an administrative executive director. More about our work is at www.metrowestfreemedicalprogram.org.

Mission Statement

MetroWest Free Medical Program serves as an entry point to the healthcare system for those in our community who are uninsured/insufficiently insured. Even with continued advances in health care, many gaps in access remain. Our program fills a critical need, offering a place for patients to go other than the ER and providing access to immediate and preventative care. We are a vital part of the health safety net. We provide free medical care to individuals during evening clinics in Framingham and Sudbury. Our volunteer providers offer direct medical care in Adult Medicine on Tuesday evenings, Women’s Health on Thursday evenings, and Vision on Monday evenings. We also refer patients for additional services and health care resources. We have interpreters available for patients during our clinics.

Description

We serve individuals who live primarily in Framingham, Marlborough, and MetroWest. Providing access to health care for low-income residents, particularly for individuals who are immigrants and newcomers, regardless of circumstances, is the heart of our work. The majority of patients we see are Brazilian or Latinx and speak Portuguese and/or Spanish. We see up to 16 patients per clinic, or ~100 patients per month. We have held over 25,000 patient visits since our founding in 2004. We are a dedicated and passionate team that is committed to health care access. We engage over 80 active volunteers including physicians and nurses who provide direct care, board members and clinical and non-clinical volunteers, and patient navigators, scribes, and interpreters. We engage additional interpreters as consultants in-person and remotely. We have an extended network of partners with whom we collaborate. We are proud to have attained the 2022 National Association of Free & Charitable Clinics Gold Standards Rating.

Where We Work and Volunteer: Lexington Eye Associates at 534 Boston Post Road in Sudbury, MA is the location of our Vision clinic, held monthly on Monday evenings. 246 Maple Street Suite 1 in Marlborough, MA, is the location of our Adult Medicine and Women’s Health clinics, held weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We encourage patients and require onsite volunteers and staff to be vaccinated against COVID-19. We observe health and safety precautions found in other medical settings.
