Want to help lead environmental education field trips for elementary schoolers? NRLT hosts free educational field trips for our local elementary schools where students are introduced to the scientific method and answer the question, "can farms be part of a healthy environment?" Volunteers receive training, no experience necessary, but must have a growth-mindset and positive attitude. Send an email to Nadia stating your interest and availability: n.vanlynn@ncrlt.org

The program explores the relationship between wetlands and working lands. Students learn about wetland restoration that balances human land uses (notably farming) with wildlife management.

Activities include:

  • Soil Science Exploration
  • Benthic Macroinvertebrate collection and identification
  • Salmon Habitat Game
  • Plant Observations
  • Natural and Cultural History
  • Pre- and Post- Classroom Lessons

NRLT is seeking volunteers to help lead these field trips! Volunteers will always have parent chaperones and teachers present for support, and all of the materials and training required are provided by NRLT. No experience necessary, but volunteers must have a growth-mindset and positive attitude.

About NORTHCOAST REGIONAL LAND TRUST

Location:

Mission Statement

The Northcoast Regional Land Trust is dedicated to the protection and economic viability of working landscapes, farms, forests, and grazing lands and to the preservation and protection of land for its natural, educational, scenic, and historic values. We work with landowners on a voluntary basis to promote stewardship of Northern California’s healthy and productive resource base, natural systems, and quality of life.

Description

The Northcoast Regional Land Trust (NRLT) conserves northwestern California’s ranches, farms, and forestlands, protecting watershed health, wildlife habitat, and the natural resources our communities depend on.

NRLT has permanently protected more than 56,000 acres throughout northwestern California. Most of this land belongs to private landowners and is not open to the public, but we invite you to read about these special properties by exploring the map found on our website. Go to ncrlt.org, and under the "What We Do" dropdown menu, select "Conserved Properties".

Want to get out on a public access trail? Visit our Freshwater Farms Reserve property.

We also host a free field trip program, Cows & Cattails, for local elementary school classes grades 3 to 5. In this program, students are introduced to the scientific method and answer the question, "can farms be part of a healthy environment?"
