ORGANIZATION: Youth Mentoring Connection

Image_202303122317

Youth Mentoring Connection (YMC) is partnering with Girls Club of Los Angeles (GCLA) for a 9-month mentoring program that meets every other Tuesday from 5:30 - 7:30. Volunteers will be matched with a high school student in a one-on-one relationship, in a safe community setting. Mentors will be expected to be trained and must undergo a background check.

We believe that when a caring adult mentor shows up for a young person in a consistent way, they change 2 lives. Our Gift Centered Approach allows for the healing to begin, as mentors walk in the path with their mentee together. We are only asking for 4 hours a month - you show up, and YMC takes care of the rest.

Mission Statement

The Mission of Youth Mentoring Connection is to transform the lives of at-risk youth by caring for their wounds and shining a light on their gifts through an ongoing mentoring community, creative expression, and life-changing experiences; thus inspiring them to become thriving adults. Our Vision is of safe communities worldwide using our Gifts Centered Approach to bring vital connection, love, and healing into the lives of at-risk youth, so they may live fully into their passion and purpose.

Description

GIFT CENTERED APPROACH

Our mentors understand that mentoring is not about simply giving good advice. They understand that the most effective way to mentor an "at risk" youth is to shine a light on their gifts and care for their wounds. Gifts include inherent talents and positive personality traits each person was born to share with the world. We have discovered natural leaders, musicians, entrepreneurs, engineers, counselors, and other gifts waiting to be acknowledged. Youth Mentoring Connection programs put the components in place for each youth to be "seen," to feel deeply inspired, and to realize there is a purpose for their lives.
