Morgan Duke Conservation Society protects the environment at the Hudson River Special Management Area known as Hudson River Recreation Area and it has been known Buttermilk & Bear Slides. is located on the eastern shore of the Hudson River in the Lake George Wild Forest on River Road in Lake Luzerne, New York. Morgan Duke Conservation Society protects the environment and works on other projects at Hudson River Special Management Area under the supervision of DEC through a Volunteer Stewardship Agreement.
Morgan Duke Conservation Society is looking for individuals, families and students who would like to become a volunteer and work on projects with the volunteer steward James Sullivan.
- Volunteers can work independently to pick up litter throughout the area including inside campsites, parking lots, along the trails and the sandy beach in the Hudson River on Darling Ford trail.
- Volunteers can work with volunteer steward James Sullivan to help paint the new picnic tables that were installed last year and also paint the trail gate at Darling ford and outhouses.
- Volunteers can also collect data by check marking off what type of garbage they picked up, how many bags collected and areas they have picked up garbage. Volunteers will be provided with data collection sheets to fill out.
- Attend Community Clean Up Events
There are no set amount of hours that you have to work, no set schedules, and no minimum amount of times that you have to volunteer

Our passion for natural beautification has led us to be one of the largest conservation groups on the East Coast. We host a wide range of projects throughout the region. We maintain the surrounding high-traffic National and State Parks by planting trees, collecting litter, preserving archaeological sites, removing graffiti, and creating a culture of stewardship in Upstate New York and beyond! We are volunteer-based, which means that our work would not be possible without our wonderful volunteers, who have dedicated countless hours to our mission. Environmental education is a facet of our many efforts to preserve and protect our state parks. We are committed to leading by example and teaching our community the importance of ethical land management for all to enjoy.
