PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Assist school staff with this fantastic event that celebrates science fiction in honor of Octavia E Butler at the school named after her. Butler was an American science fiction author, a Pasadena native, and multiple recipients of the Hugo and Nebula awards.

Volunteers are needed for the entire event... from set up to wrap... to assist staff, students, and families with the festivities.

IMPACT

Support public education. This event focuses on literacy and science.

60% of PUSD students are unduplicated pupils who are English learners, foster youth, and those who are eligible to receive free and/or reduced-price meals.

VOLUNTEER ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

From Noon - 3:30 PM, volunteers will help move tables, put up canopies, and assist with general event and booth set up. The ability to lift to 50 lbs. is recommended, but volunteers can be accommodated with other tasks.

From 2:30 to 5:00 PM, volunteers will help with registration/sign-in, and visitor traffic flow, and assist staff and exhibitors with any needs they may have.

From 5:30 to 7:00 PM, volunteers will help break down tables and canopies, clean up trash, and make sure the campus is ready for school the next day.

REQUIREMENTS

Volunteers must be 18 years old. Some lifting is required.
