The Potomac Appalachian Trail Club (PATC), in coordination with the Virginia Native Plant Society, will be conducting an invasive plant removal day at Thompson Wildlife Management area near Linden, Virginia from 10AM - 2:30 PM on Sunday, April 2. This area is one of the most outstanding botanical sites in the Virginia Blue Ridge. Unfortunately, the native flora of Thompson is increasingly threatened by non-native invasive plant species. On April 2nd, we will concentrate our efforts on pulling garlic mustard (Alliaria petioilata) rosettes.

No prior experience is necessary. Training will be provided on-site. Please bring seasonal appropriate clothing (never forget rain gear), persona work gloves, enough water for the day, a sack lunch, snacks and a small trowel if you have one.

Be prepared to hike several miles and squat or bend over repeatedly - all with the satisfaction that you are helping to protect a truly special natural area. We will follow state and PATC COVID guidance.

Mission Statement

The Appalachian Trail Conservancy’s mission is to protect, manage, and advocate for the Appalachian National Scenic Trail.

Description

Appalachian Trail (A.T.) is a project built on civic engagement. It exists because people like you step up and help out in a variety of ways, outdoors or inside. Activities can be physical (such as Trail work or boundary maintenance), creative (like contributing photography or writing), or organizational (like planning or leading activities).

Volunteers gain new skills through their work. Whether you volunteer because you enjoy time in nature, want to forge new friendships, or appreciate having a deeper connection to a place you hold in high regard, we are glad you are here.

There are a variety of ways to contribute your talents and your time.
