Do you want to make health care more accessible? Are you fluent in at least one other language? Volunteer as a SHIBA Medicare Advisor with Solid Ground!

The Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors (SHIBA), administered by Solid Ground, provides free, unbiased, and confidential education and advice to King County residents on their Medicare healthcare options and health care fraud/abuse. SHIBA volunteers empower, educate, and assist Medicare-eligible people, their families, and caregivers to make informed health insurance decisions that allow them to access much-needed care and benefits. This is where you can help!

We are currently recruiting for bilingual SHIBA Medicare Counselors, especially those fluent in Spanish. If you have excellent listening and communications skills, are good at problem-solving and researching, have tech skills, and are willing to learn about Medicare, this role may be a great fit for you! This position is mostly remote, but in-person work spaces and opportunities are available, especially in North Seattle and the Eastside.

Solid Ground believes poverty is solvable. Volunteers play a critical role in helping us meet basic needs, nurture success, and spread change - so everyone in our community can achieve their full potential. BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color), and people with the lived experience of food insecurity are strongly encouraged to volunteer.

About Solid Ground

Location:

1501 N 45TH ST, SEATTLE, WA 98103, US

Mission Statement

Our mission... Solid Ground works to end poverty and undo racism and other oppressions that are root causes of poverty. Our vision... Solid Ground believes our community can move beyond poverty and oppression to a place where all people have access to quality housing, nutritious food, equal justice and opportunities to thrive. Our values... Solid Ground is committed to working with compassion, integrity, accountability, creativity and an anti-oppression approach to end homelessness, hunger, inequality and other barriers to social justice. We value collaboration and leadership from the communities we serve.

Description

Our history...

Solid Ground was founded in 1974 by community leaders and concerned citizens of one of Seattle's then most economically devastated neighborhoods, Fremont. Originally called the Fremont Public Association, our services - emergency food bank, clothing bank, and employment program - reflected the desperate needs and determined response of a mobilized and committed neighborhood.

Solid Ground today...

As the scope and severity of homelessness and poverty have increased over the years, so too have our reach to our greater community and our range of services. Now based in Seattle’s Wallingford neighborhood, our 30 programs and services help more than 60,000 households each year overcome poverty and build better futures throughout King County and beyond.
