One Hard Thing is our quarterly volunteer event where we send up to 4 volunteers to the home of a senior or adult with disability for 1.5 hours to help with a tasks like gardening, cleaning, de-cluttering, and other small household tasks. Many of our clients depend on this event to complete small household chores that would be too difficult to do on their own. Families and groups of friends are welcome to volunteer together! It is a wonderful community event and we hope to see you there! ! Sign up here:

FAQ:

Where is it located?
We meet at the Richmond Senior Center on Geary and 27th Ave at 9:45am for an orientation and light refreshments. Volunteers are then sent to homes in groups of 2-4 from 10:30am-12pm. Volunteers will agree to the home and assignment beforehand so no one is sent to a home or assignment that they would not be comfortable with. All homes are located in the 94118 and 94121 zip codes.

What types of tasks?
Volunteers will agree to the tasks which are mostly helping with weeding/gardening, decluttering a space or cleaning. Some request are technology-based (setting up an email or internet) and small home repairs (hanging up a shower curtain or fixing a door hinge)

What do I need to bring?
Volunteers should wear a mask. All supplies are provided but we encourage volunteers to bring their own gardening tools like gloves. We do have some tools available as do the clients but they are limited in supply and sizes.

Who can volunteer?
We accept any ages as long as they are with parents. We find that families with children and teens enjoy the gardening/weeding assignments

Is lunch provided?
Yes we provide a catered lunch at the center at 12pm-1:30pm
