Queens Community House’s Friendly Visiting Program seeks volunteers to provide thoughtful and engaging weekly phone calls to isolated older adults with range of interests, hobbies, religious and political beliefs. Visits can be either in person or via phone.

This particular client is a transplant from Cairo by way of Oklahoma City, Miami, and California. He now lives in Elmhurst, but he worked in the hotel industry for many years. He loves comedy shows especially Last Man Standing. He's very social and enjoys talking with others. He is available for weekly phone calls or visits any Monday, Wednesday or Friday afternoon after 3 pm.

To become a friendly visitor, you will have to complete an application and some other paperwork, provide two personal/professional references, consent to a background check, interview and then complete a 90-minute training. The process can take two to four weeks. We ask that you commit to at least six months once the right match is found for you. There is short weekly reporting of your visits or calls and check-ins every few months.

If interested, email us at volunteer@qchnyc.org

Mission Statement

Queens Community House provides individuals and families with the tools to enrich their lives and build healthy, inclusive communities.

Description

Queens Community House (QCH) is a multi-site, multi-service settlement house that serves the diverse neighborhoods of Queens. We serve residents of all ages, races, faiths, and ethnicities while supporting the viability of the borough as a whole.

QCH was formed in 1975 (as Forest Hills Community House) to help heal the wounds of a neighborhood conflict. Over four decades, our reach and breadth have grown; today we offer a broad network of comprehensive services at 25 program sites in 11 different neighborhoods in Queens, allowing us to impact individuals, families, and entire communities.
