Classes: Tuesdays & Thursdays from 10am-11:30am. We respectfully ask volunteers to volunteer one shift a week (once class).

Location : Horizons for Homeless Children - 1785 Columbus Ave, Roxbury, MA 02119. Street parking is usually available. 5-minute walk from Jackson Square Orange line.

JVS provides a broad range of services including adult education, skills training, job readiness training, job placement and support, and access to post-secondary education. JVS assists employers in their search for well-qualified job applicants and their initiatives to upgrade the skills of their incumbent workforce.

Program/Department Overview:

JVS works with employers to develop and customize training and education services for their employees at their location. Based on the employers’ business and workforce development goals, JVS will provide: English language classes (for non-native speakers), adult basic education, pre-college classes, customer service training, effective communication classes, supervisory training, computer classes, and medical terminology classes. Employer partners include CVS, Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, Legal Sea Foods, Hebrew Senior Life, Partners Healthcare, Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital, Mass General Hospital, and many more.

Responsibilities:
Assist the computer instructor by interpreting class in Spanish. Additionally, work with adult students who need extra support with computer skills and assignments during class. The location is Horizons for Homeless Children, a shelter serving homeless families. These basic computer classes are offered to parents in the shelter to gain skills needed for employment. Classes will cover basic computer and internet navigation skills to understand job search, filling out forms, etc.
