About us
Doodles Academy is a national arts non-profit dedicated to ensuring all kids, regardless of their background, have access to high-quality arts curricula. We work to close the opportunity gap by providing a powerful art curriculum, either at low cost or for free, to schools and communities that may otherwise not be able to afford it.
We believe in using curriculum to create change, and thus we offer exceptional visual art curricula that provides outlets for young learners to develop and express their individuality while expanding their knowledge of the world and the diverse group of people they share it with. Within our projects we offer resources to connect literacy and social studies content, often offer video tutorials, and connect to contemporary as well as classic artworks. This increases the perceived value of art education and encourages use by schools that might not value art for art's sake.
We design our impactful lessons for educators of all backgrounds, even those who are not formally trained art teachers, to ensure that this art program is accessible even to schools without an established art program or teacher.
Our 'home-base' is in Ann Arbor, where we develop and test curricula in workshops and classes.
Description:
We are seeking 15 volunteers to assist our lead teachers in a district-wide art program.
Volunteers will be matched with a lead teacher in one of our schools and support for 8 sequential weeks of after-school programming (aprox. 3:30-5:30), once per week. Most schools start the week of September 12, although exact start dates vary depending on the school.
Volunteers assist the lead teacher with students. All teachers work with a supplied curriculum and work with and provide updates to the manager (including visual media and student testimonials). Volunteers support with supplies and support according to the needs of the lead teacher. They will work directly with students, and work with them to realize their unique creative vision.
