Mission: To conserve California native plants and their natural habitats, and increase understanding, appreciation, and horticultural use of native plants.

Description: California Native Plant Society’s Yerba Buena chapter needs a volunteer who can help express our passion for protecting our natural history, educating the public and preserving biodiversity in San Francisco and Northern San Mateo Counties.

(a) Responsible for tracking laws, ordinances, or resolutions proposed at the state or local level which contain provisions related to CNPS’ mission, and on which the chapter might want to take an advocacy position.

  1. Requires passing on legislative alerts sent by State CNPS to chapter members.
  2. Also requires keeping up with posted agendas for upcoming meetings of relevant San Francisco and Northern San Mateo Commissions and Committees.
  3. Also responsible for tracking issues related to CNPS’ mission that may come up at hearings of various other city agencies and councils with decision making powers.
  4. Works with Conservation Committee on public advocacy relating to issues appearing before such bodies. Helps coordinate requests sent to chapter members asking for letters to be written, or for public comment to be made at specific times and venues. Helps formulate suggested talking points.
