California Immigrants Resources Center seeks volunteers who will work directly with newly arrived immigrants/refugees post their resettlement agency sponsorship. The assistance provided will be in helping them navigate the basics and organizations of life establishment in the Sacramento region. It can involve knowledge of school enrollment; opportunities for employment and workforce development offered at low or free costs: and education and vocational opportunities at low or free costs from unions, government agencies, and or nonprofits. Assistance may include driving to legal or medical appointments for services. Assistance may also involve getting to know people in the Sacramento region who traveled from other parts of the world and may need assistance in stabilizing their families. Volunteers will be doing humanitarian work inside the US and close to your home. Volunteers will have a time period option from three to six months of volunteer experience.

Mission Statement

In partnership with the immigrant communities and nonprofits serving immigrants, California Immigrants Resources Center will provide information and assistance to empower recently arrived or other immigrants so that they fully reach their civic, economic, and social potential.

Description

We are a startup nonprofit based in Sacramento, California serving the immigrant community through collaboration with as many other advocacy and support organizations. Sacramento is a very diverse region and welcomes immigrants seeking to settle and restart their new life in California. The California Immigrants Resources Center's (CIRC) priorities for these startup years is to release a Welcome Guide for new arrivals to provide information referrals to point toward resources needed for basic life tasks in settling down to a new location. CIRC will be needing volunteers once we have established a credible mentoring program to assist and facilitate immigration into Sacramento region. In the meantime, CIRC will complete tasks with financial assistance from the FUEL Network (City of Sacramento organization) and the Hello Neighbor (NPO, Pittsburg) and Shultz Family Foundation grant. We seek to develop presentations informing immigrants of the rights and benefits that will help them get established.
