Washington English Center (WEC), a DC-based nonprofit organization, is looking for volunteers to teach English to immigrants and refugees! Join our community of over 450 volunteers to teach either online or in person in downtown DC. No prior experience is required, as you will be paired with a co-teacher and receive support from our staff, however, you must speak fluent English. You can also sign up to substitute teach or to be an online conversation or writing tutor. WEC serves several hundred adult language learners, including many recently resettled refugees from Afghanistan, Ukraine, and Venezuela. As a WEC volunteer, you’ll have the opportunity to be exposed to new cultures, attend free teacher trainings, and meet like-minded people at volunteer socials throughout the term.

Group classes start April 17th and run through June 29th, but tutoring sessions happen on a rolling basis. Please check out our Spring flyer with all volunteer opportunities. If you are interested in signing up, please visit our website at https://www.washingtonenglish.org/volunteers/. Once completed, a team member will reach out to you within two weeks of your sign-up to schedule a short onboarding call.

For more information about our programs, please contact the Associate Director of Volunteers, Yaritza Abrego at yabrego@washingtonenglish.org
