8000+ people in Graham County live in poverty which often limits food choices and is linked to many diet-related diseases. The United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties (UWGG) believes in improving the local communities and the lives of those who live in them by focusing on three areas: education, health, and financial stability. The Community Outreach VISTA will identify the community needs through outreach to community organizations and individuals, and educate the public about UWGG programs. The VISTA will work with the community, staff, and education partners to break the cycle of poverty through the implementation of identified goals and increasing the effectiveness of UWGG programs.

Tasks include: 1)Increase brand awareness and promote UWGG throughout the community. 2)Engage in resource development (individual giving, and corporate giving) to build the sustainability of and expand UWGG programs. 3)Expand the Community Health Improvement plan for Graham County. The three areas of focus are mental health, substance abuse, and nutrition. 4)Ensure there is a sustainable transfer of knowledge, products, and relationships.

This is an AmeriCorps National Service position. This service opportunity is one year, full-time, and offers a stipend. The service opportunity includes: Living Allowance, Relocation Allowance, End of Service Award, Healthcare Benefit, Non-Competitive Eligibility, and Professional Development training. The position is located with United Way of Graham and Greenlee County. Relocation to Safford, Arizona is required.
