Come help clean up the shoreline and park grounds of Lake Wheeler Park to keep our environment and waterways litter-free! Lake Wheeler Big Sweep serves as an event location for the Wake County Big Sweep. Big Sweep is a county and state-wide volunteer effort to keep our environments litter-free and protect our watersheds.

Duties and Impact:

Volunteers will pick up litter inside the park grounds and shorelines of Lake Wheeler and Simpkins Pond. Lake Wheeler Park is open year-round and is a highly visited park. Volunteers help keep the park free of debris and litter for all park users and wildlife. Lake Wheeler is a primary water resource for surrounding communities so volunteer efforts go to keeping our watersheds clean and litter free!

Work Environment:

Work is outside and in the elements. Areas traversed include open fields, hiking trails with uneven terrain, parking lots, roadways, and shorelines. Restrooms are located in 2 areas of the park.
