ORGANIZATION: Higher Ground Wellness

Grant Proposal Writer

Position Title: Lead Grant Writer

Mission

The Higher Ground for Humanity (HGFH), mission is to empower middle to high school students with the skills, expertise, and community to navigate their own emotional and physical intelligence.

We’re choosing to prioritize education for minority middle school students due to the severity of depression and the increase in suicide attempts at the high school age, based on data sourced from the Youth Risk Behavior Survey Data Summary performed by the CDC on U.S High School Students in 2019.

  1. In 2019, approximately 1 in 6 youth reported making a suicide plan in the year prior.
  2. More than 1 in 3 high school students had experienced sadness or hopelessness in 2019.
  3. The number of black students who reported attempting suicide rose by almost 50% in 2019.

Looking at physical health, 1 in every 2 African-American children will develop diabetes and 1 in every 5 African-American children is obese and Hispanic children have even higher rates for childhood obesity.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to teach holistic approaches to enrich the emotional and physical well-being for middle to high school students across America.

Description

Higher Ground was founded to address a humanitarian issue to support the lack of life skill curriculum to aid in the personal development of our future leaders. Specifically, we are servicing the community by lending a hand on how to choose hope through, Social emotional learning experiences. We’ve spent the last year building up our curriculum, designing programs for the community, and building a strong leadership team. This year we’re looking to raise $100K through the Take My Hand Fundraising Campaign.

What’s next? We are actively raising to support the operations of our summer theatre program launching in Los Angeles, CA July 2023. Our summer program is designed to teach life skills through the art of theatre. Students learn tips to help navigate our greatest performance, the role we play to ourselves. Students meet for three weeks, and learn how to face their fears on and off the stage with the help our amazing leadership team.
