Mission
The Higher Ground for Humanity [HGH] mission is to educate and foster everyday behavioral practices [life skills] to advance mental, emotional, and physical well-being for underserved communities in communication, nutrition, and fitness.
ValuesOur values showcase our commitment to Well-Being for the Whole Being.
Play EquityWe are transparent and honest, we strive to center growth for economics and social mobility.
Digital LiteracyWe support the whole child, in authentic service to the community in the digital age.
Non-TraditionalWe quickly adapt non-traditional solutions, we strive to be pioneers in inclusive experiential learning environments.
What We DoWe fund youth education programs to assist young people in finding their own solutions and inspiration.
Our short-term goal is to provide youth an opportunity to explore and learn in a non-threatening atmosphere with life-skill education that can be applied to support life challenges.
We want youth to leave HGH better equipped to problem-solve, manage stress, reach personal goals, and improve social interactions.
VisionHGH is the life skills education thought leader for underserved school districts advancing after-school programs, specialty programs, and classroom workshops where we train young minds in the five components of Social Emotional Learning (SEL): self-esteem, self-awareness, relationship skills, self-management, and decision-making.
ImpactHGH nurtures and cultivates the strengths and leadership abilities of our children and youth. To date we’ve supported over 275 families across California, Texas, and the Mississippi Delta.
Our programs provide an emotional, physical, and intellectual experience.
We’re choosing to prioritize education for youth due to the severity of depression and the increase in suicide attempts at the high school age, based on data sourced from the Youth Risk Behavior Survey Data Summary performed by the CDC on U.S High School Students in 2019.
- In 2019, approximately 1 in 6 youth reported making a suicide plan in the year prior.
- More than 1 in 3 high school students had experienced sadness or hopelessness in 2019.
- The number of black students who reported attempting suicide rose by almost 50% in 2019.
Looking at physical health, 1 in every 2 African-American children will develop diabetes and 1 in every 5 African-American children is obese and Hispanic children have even higher rates for childhood obesity.
