Volunteer with the Foster Grandparent Program!
- Do you want to make a difference in your life and the lives of local children?
- Are you 55 years old or older?
- Do you have limited income?
- Are you willing to serve 15 hours or more per week?
- Volunteers receive a small stipend to help defray the cost of volunteering.
The Foster Grandparent Program enables caring, mature adults, often from their neighborhood, and from limited-income households, to support children and help them advance to the next grade level with their peers. You can be a hero to a child struggling to learn.
Foster Grandparents provide individual attention to children with special and/or exceptional needs that are identified by a teacher or staff member. Volunteers serve 15 to 40 hours a week in locations such as schools, Boys and Girls Clubs, daycare centers, or Head Start centers.
Volunteers serve in areas of:
- School Readiness: helping young children enter Kindergarten ready to read
- Mentoring in Afterschool Programs
- Elementary Education: Providing guidance in elementary school classrooms with children.
