Mission

Higher Ground for Humanity (HGFH), our mission is to empower middle to high school students with the skills, expertise, and community to navigate their own emotional and physical intelligence.

We’re choosing to prioritize education for minority middle school students due to the severity of depression and the increase in suicide attempts at the high school age, based on data sourced from the Youth Risk Behavior Survey Data Summary performed by the CDC on U.S High School Students in 2019.

  1. In 2019, approximately 1 in 6 youth reported making a suicide plan in the year prior.
  2. More than 1 in 3 high school students had experienced sadness or hopelessness in 2019.
  3. The number of black students who reported attempting suicide rose by almost 50% in 2019.
