POSITION TITLE: Volunteer Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Shop Operations Manager

Who we are: Kitchens for Good (KFG) believes that kitchens are economic engines for good in their communities. Kitchens for Good is a 501(c)(3), social enterprise that breaks the cycles of food waste, hunger, and poverty through innovative solutions in workforce training, healthy food production, and profitable food enterprises. These enterprises include a resale kitchenware store, a soup cart at the Rady Shell and roles supporting our Apprenticeship program.

Position Summary: The Volunteer Coordinator organizes all aspects of Kitchens for Good Shop volunteer engagement. This role supports Kitchens for Good Shop, including the recruitment of daily volunteers for processing donated goods to be sold in the retail store. The Volunteer Coordinator will build systems to engage, track, and sustain an increased volunteer base. The Volunteer Coordinator reports to the Shop Operations Manager and works within the Shop to build a robust Shop Volunteer Corp.

Essential Functions:

Volunteer Coordination

  • Organizes, coordinates, and manages the recruitment of volunteers for the Shop
  • Conducts accurate tracking of individual volunteers, volunteer groups, and court-ordered volunteers
  • Prepares and provides necessary court documentation to volunteers who have met their community service requirements
  • Post upcoming volunteer shifts in Volunteer Hub
  • Proactively assess staffing needs and schedule volunteers based on their skill set to the appropriate tasks
  • Conduct regular Volunteer Program assessment; present feedback to staff and integrate for program improvement

Location: 980 Hornblend Street San Diego CA, 92019

Time Commitment: a minimum of 6 months 15-20 hours a week

Qualifications

  • Two or more years of work experience in nonprofits, volunteerism, and or food industry preferred.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Email, Excel, Word and Volunteer Hub.

Work Environment

This job operates in a retail store environment. This role routinely uses equipment such as cash registers, computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. 

Physical Demands

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by a volunteer to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The volunteer will routinely need to sit, stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push, and pull items weighing 25-50 pounds or less. The position requires manual dexterity, auditory and visual skills, and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.
