About HANDS ON PERU

Location:

107 Eaton Pl, Cary, NC 27513, US

Mission Statement

Hands on Peru "Volunteer Center for Public Health" aims to reduce incidence of both communicable and chronic disease in Huanchaco, Peru through education of disease risk factors, increasing access to basic health check-ups and promoting healthy lifestyles through the work of international medical volunteers. The clinic will work towards sustainable community development.

Description

HANDS ON PERU is a public charity filed under IRS code 501(c)3 with an international commitment to improve access to medical care for disempowered and marginalized populations in Trujillo, Peru and its surrounding areas. We deeply recognize the importance of cultural exchange and global awareness of such public health needs in low and middle income countries, and we work to fill those gaps through the use of international medical volunteers.

Since 2013, Hands on Peru has hosted over 100 international volunteers, has directly reached over 2,000 Peruvians with health care, health education, and has made over 50 donations to low-income, resource-poor health clinics in the city of Trujillo and its surrounding rural areas.

The clinic will allow the volunteer the chance to have one-on-one patient-volunteer interaction every day with the impoverished community members. The volunteers will be able to take height, weight, blood pressure, glucose levels, and other basic medical procedures before they see a doctor, and the health campaigns will have an education component that focuses on health education. This is a great opportunity for all volunteers interested in medicine, public health, nutrition, physical therapy, dentistry, and other health-related fields. We also have a teaching english program!

HOP WORKS TO GIVE YOU, THE VOLUNTEER, MORE ONE-ON-ONE PATIENT INTERACTION!!! and increase the opportunity for you to use your own skills, knowledge, and passion to expand healthcare in an impoverished setting
