**Recruiting 2023-24 Cohort to Start June, July, or August of 2023! | This is for a full-time position as an AmeriCorps VISTA at a University or College in North Carolina. Full time requires at least 35 hours per week and for the VISTA member to live in the area they are serving - the contract is for 1 full year. Housing assistance is available at most sites. The NC Hunger Corps is an AmeriCorps VISTA project sponsored by North Carolina Campus Engagement (NCCE). NCCE is a collaborative network of colleges and universities committed to educating students for civic and social responsibility, partnering with communities for positive change, and strengthening democracy. The NC Hunger Corps VISTA will serve with a college or community-based organization to support on-campus and off-campus food security programs that target low-income or disadvantaged college students, staff, and community members. These programs may include campus or community gardens, food recovery efforts modeled on the Campus Kitchen Project or the Food Recovery Network, food pantries, and fresh produce distribution (mobile markets). Hunger Corps members may do activities such as help to raise awareness about nutrition and healthy eating, recruit and train volunteers, design and manage programs including days of service, build systems, networks, and relationships, participate in professional development and much more! Corps members should have a demonstrated passion for promoting food security, experience working or volunteering with students and community members, as well as strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. Proven leadership, project management abilities, and a strong interest & experience in college/university community service programs are also essential skills for this position. Some placements offer on-campus benefits such as access to meal plan, gym, library, and more.

Member Duties: As an NC Hunger Corps Member you will have the opportunity to be a part of a service cohort fighting food insecurity across North Carolina! Corps members may:

• Build the capacity of projects such as food pantries, community gardens, food recovery programs

• Assess community and organizational needs and identify assets

• Recruit and train volunteers

• Develop systems for volunteer recruitment and training

• Create policies and procedures that increase program effectiveness

• Support citizen and student leadership and participation in service opportunities

• Seek new resources through fundraising and grant-writing

• Facilitate volunteer placements, community-based research, and co-curricular opportunities that support communities

• Manage programmatic outreach, communications, and marketing

• Coordinate food insecurity awareness events and national day of service events

• Create and/or monitor program data collection and performance measurement systems to ensure program success.
