First flax flower

Grow a field of flax for linen fiber using 19th-century methods at Hale Farm & Village! Volunteers will come together for planting day around May 1, and again for the harvest in late July.

Opportunities to learn about fiber processing, spinning, weaving, and natural dyeing in early Western Reserve history will be available to volunteers after the growing season.

This project supports Hale Farm's agriculture and horticulture education initiatives, contributes to the regional work in regenerative textile systems, and connects to an international project in experimental archaeology with a focus on flax.
