ORGANIZATION: EMPOWERMENT 4 GIRLS

Empowerment 4 Girls will be 7 years old in 2023! We're growing and creating programs and opportunities for volunteers to support fundraising and networking events, as well as our 1-day and week-long Empowerment and Conscious Minds Conscious Bodies(tm) programs.

Our programs for adolescent girls and non-binary youth ages 10-15 are structured similarly to day camps, so we get started at 9:30 and end at 4:00 each day. Volunteers can choose four-hour shifts from 8:00am to 12:00pm, 12:00pm to 4:00pm, or volunteer the for the full day.

Throughout the day you will support program participants and E4G staff and other volunteers. For instance, you might be asked to set up for an arts and crafts session by bringing out the materials and supplies the group will be working with, then cleaning up those things afterward. We like to spend as much time outside as possible, so there might also be a need to help make the shifts between indoors and outdoors; we have to work with the weather! We provide lunch and snacks for everyone on each program day, including volunteers, so you might be asked to set up for snacks or lunch service.

E4G offers a trauma-informed approach to our programming and we provide a safe, nurturing space for kids to show up as is, without judgment, to learn, have fun and grow together. Sometimes program participants may be in need of additional support in doing some of our activities or need someone to connect with if they don't want to participate in an activity. You may be made aware of any special needs of a participant(s), in order to assist program staff and other volunteers in making sure they are getting their needs met during the day.

We also have Volunteer Guest Presenters, who join us to lead or co-lead a session focused on the theme of the day, for 1-2 hours. It can be art, body movement, creative writing, role-playing, or any activity or presentation that will engage the group in deepening their understanding of the subject matter of the day. Sometimes Guest Presenters also take a Program Volunteer shift on the same day.

Mission Statement

Empowerment 4 Girls exists to provide all girls and non-binary youth ages 10-15 with the tools, life skills, and support network to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally in their adolescence and throughout their lives.

Description

Empowerment 4 Girls programs fill a gap in social support and affirming spaces for girls and non-binary youth at a critical life phase when they are forming identities and learning to cope with numerous stressors that put them at risk for depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation.

Our social-emotional and sex education programs are trauma-informed, guided by WA Education Standards , and align with expert-recommended strategies to support the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of youth as they navigate the journey from adolescence to adulthood.
