What is the Camp Mulberry?Named after the mulberry tree that transitions from one gender to the other many times in its lifespan, Camp Mulberry is a place set apart for transgender and gender diverse 6-17-year-olds. During this weeklong experience, campers are empowered to be themselves, express themselves and make life changing, sometimes lifesaving connections in a safe space. They leave having found lifelong friends and so much more. Campers come away from Camp Mulberry knowing they are not alone.
What will you do? Be part of a team of volunteers that helps over-see a cabin of children or youth, ages 7-17, and spend time guiding them with kindness and care through a weekend of activities in beautiful Big Bear, Ca.
Who can volunteer? Camp Mulberry welcomes great volunteers and mentors from all walks of life. All of our volunteers are at least 18 years old, have full vaccination against COVID-19, can pass a criminal background check, and attend two days of training. Our volunteers come from all walks of life and share a common goal to empower and support children and teens. We especially welcome volunteer applications from LGBTQ+ and HIV community members, all are welcome.
