Recruiting Organization: Roots for Life
A member of the board of directors is responsible for ensuring that Roots for Life fulfills its mission by planning for the future, monitoring operations and evaluating Roots for Life’s performance. A board member must also fulfill the fiduciary responsibilities of the board of directors and making corporate decisions that protect the public interest. We are currently looking for members with the following skills: nonprofit, legal, corporate, and fundraising.
Key Responsibilities
● advance the mission of Roots for Life
○ actively promote the mission of Roots for Life, contributing ideas and expertise
○ keep up-to-date on developments in Roots for Life’s field/food insecurity
○ be informed about Roots for Life’s mission, services, policies and programs; informing others about Roots for Life and work to enhance Roots for Life’s public image
● support the Executive Director
○ provide ongoing support and guidance for the executive staff
○ annually review performance
● ensure effective organizational planning
○ support and assist in monitoring Roots for Life’s programs and services
○ participate in the development of a strategic plan to accomplish the mission, oversee its implementation and evaluate its success
● actively participate in all board activities
○ attend in person or by phone, if applicate, quarterly board meetings
○ review agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings
○ serve on a committee and periodically take on special assignments
○ suggest nominees to the board who can make significant contributions to the work of the board and to Roots for Life
○ assess the board’s performance (annually)
● ensure adequate resources
○ Provide a personal financial contribution to Roots for Life
■ We expect you to encourage others to make a donation when they are seeking ways to give back
○ manage resources effectively
○ carry out the fiduciary responsibilities of the board, such as reviewing the Roots for Life’s annual financial statements, selecting an auditor and receiving the auditor’s report and follow conflict-of-interest and confidentiality policies
Time Commitment: Quarterly meetings; please note additional time will be required for special
meetings and other board commitments.
