Environmental volunteer opportunities available with ETIV to help identify ways to promote and ensure increased and sustainable environmental conservation in and around Itacaré, Brazil. Our main goal is to develop a new generation of local (Brazilian) youth leaders that will actively care for each other, their community and the environment. This project includes an educational campaign with fun and interactive trainings and activities to teach children and youth how incredibly important it is to take care of our natural environment and work together to combat global climate change.

Volunteers will also have the freedom and flexibility to also focus on a micro project of interest with the community; from recycling to organic gardening, a neighborhood cleanup and a mangrove restoration project and we can even accept volunteers that want to help us develop our online environmental conservation campaign... the possibilities are wide open!

This position can also be an internship position.

Main Responsibilities:

• To support development of the weekly environmental trainings with youth.
• To take attendance and document outcomes including successes, challenges and best practices for every class.
• To teach many of the core values that lay the foundation for ETIV's work, also listed on our website.
• To manage our organic garden/compost and recycling at the volunteer house and gardens.
• To support our mangrove restoration work.
• Virtual positions involve helping us to build a digital/online environmental campaign in support of preservation of our natural resources, basic sanitation and renewable energy
• Help respond to emergency environmental events when they take place, for example right now we have more crude oil washing up on our beaches and we need more support to clean up the chunks of crude oil that we are finding on our beaches.

Requirements:

• Volunteers must work at least 20 hours per week
• Virtual volunteers must dedicate at least 3 to 5 hours per week
• Basic Portuguese
• Minimum 1 month time commitment

ETIV do Brasil is located in the beautiful fishing and surfing town of Itacare, Bahia. Our mission is to support development and environmental conservation in Brazil, with a deep focus on youth development.

Most interns can receive university credit while interning with our NGO and some are even able to receive a University stipend or grant to help cover their expenses. We can offer ongoing support and supervision and can help organize taxi pickups, local accommodations and even Capoeira or Portuguese classes. All volunteers and interns will also receive our Pre-Departure Powerpoint, and Introduction to the NGO, a tour of Itacare and life insurance during their internship at the NGO.
