Recruiting Organization: Torture Abolition and Survivor Support Coalition International (TASSC)
TASSC International is recruiting volunteers for the spring and summer with an interest in and commitment to international human rights. TASSC is a Washington D.C.-based organization that serves survivors of torture and advocates for the elimination and prevention of torture worldwide. TASSC’s International Human Rights Advocacy and Research Program works with survivors and witnesses of human rights abuses, government agencies, and experts worldwide to expose serious human rights violations and hold their perpetrators accountable.
Volunteer positions in TASSC’s International Human Rights Advocacy and Research Program are available to graduate students, law students, recent college graduates and undergraduate students who have completed at least two years of college who can demonstrate:
- An interest in and commitment to international human rights;
- Strong research and writing skills;
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, internet applications, facility with document sharing platforms);
- Sensitivity to concerns related to interacting with individuals traumatized by persecution, including completion of TASSC’s trauma-informed training;
- Availability for at least 15 hours per week for three or more months.
Volunteers will:
- Conduct policy and legal research into international human rights issues;
- Interview survivors and witnesses of human right violations and international relations experts;
- Draft reports, blog posts and content to be used in petitions for sanctions against human rights violators in the US, UK and EU;
- Participate in TASSC’s Congressional advocacy efforts;
- Participate in TASSC staff meetings and trainings; webinars, meetings, special events and other training and educational opportunities offered by TASSC and the international human rights community.
Volunteers may work remotely, or on a hybrid basis working both remotely and in TASSC’s Washington D.C. or Silver Spring, MD offices.
Student volunteers also can receive academic credit, consistent with the requirements of the their educational institution.
