Job Description:

Assist in maintaining and restoring historic aircraft!

Corrosion control (cleaning) is the task at hand for newbies or those without prior experience in restoration or metal work. Training in maintenance is provided.

Experienced aircraft metal workers, painters, bodyworkers, and novices with mechanical aptitude are ideal participants for duties which may include fabrication, installation, and repair of aircraft components.

All volunteers must complete an initial orientation with the Airwing department. For more info, see https://airwing.midway.org

Minimum Requirement:

Moderate physical demands. Requires the ability to climb on stands, ladders and aircraft, as well as lifting up to 20 lbs.

Time Commitment:

A commitment of at least 10 hours/month is necessary to start, and to stay current.
Work hours are 7:00am-12pm on Fridays and/or Saturdays.

Description

The USS Midway Museum opened to the public in June 2004 and today is one of San Diego’s most popular visitor attractions with world wide audience. The naval aircraft carrier was commissioned in 1945 and served for 47 years supporting U.S. military and humanitarian efforts around the world. Nearly 250,000 sailors and officers served their country aboard the USS Midway before it was decommissioned (retired) in 1992. Museum includes more than 60 audio tour stops including nearly 30 aircraft ranging from the WWII era to today's technology in Naval aviation. Come be a part of this 'city at sea'!
