Job Description:

The Exhibits Department volunteers assist with the design and installation of new exhibits and fine tuning of pre- existing exhibits.

Minimum Requirements:

Candidates will have basic skills in using hand tools, painting, cleaning, restoration, and minor lifting to perform basic maintenance tasks involving museum exhibits. Eye for detail and craftsmanship preferred. Volunteers must be able to lift 50 lbs., climb ship’s ladders, climb short step ladders, and be able to get down on their knees and get back up without assistance.

Training Provided: Training is primarily on the job with direction from key members of the team.

Commitment: A minimum of 8 hours per month (preferably 4 hours per week) on a flexible schedule on Tuesday and Thursday only.

Description

The USS Midway Museum opened to the public in June 2004 and today is one of San Diego’s most popular visitor attractions with world wide audience. The naval aircraft carrier was commissioned in 1945 and served for 47 years supporting U.S. military and humanitarian efforts around the world. Nearly 250,000 sailors and officers served their country aboard the USS Midway before it was decommissioned (retired) in 1992. Museum includes more than 60 audio tour stops including nearly 30 aircraft ranging from the WWII era to today's technology in Naval aviation. Come be a part of this 'city at sea'!
