Volunteer at Common Roots Farm with us and get your hands in the soil while you make a meaningful impact in your community! At Common Roots Farm, people with and without disabilities participate on our urban farm, stewarding the earth using our sustainable small-scale farming methods, caring for animals, and creating friendships that sustain everyone.

We grow a variety of organic vegetables, herbs, fruit and flowers on approximately four acres right in the heart of Santa Cruz.

Volunteers are able to get involved in a variety of ways including greenhouse work, bed prep, plant out, weeding, harvesting, hedgerow and riparian maintenance, post-harvest, animal care and much more.

Our season is April through November. While these are subject to change as the season progresses, our volunteer hours beginning in April are Mondays, Wednesdays (weeding day!), and Thursdays beginning at 9 or 10 until noon. We do not have drop-in volunteer times available OR regular weekend slots. Volunteers are required to attend an orientation where we provide training for everyone.

If you love getting your hands dirty, collaborating with folks of all abilities, and caring for the land that sustains you, Common Roots Farm is the place for you! We can't wait to see you out on the farm!

Mission Statement

Common Roots Farm is an urban, organic farm where people with and without disabilities grow healthy food and build community. Our farm welcomes people of all abilities and provides a meaningful place to build relationships through farm work, volunteerism and social events.

Description

Our farm is becoming a place where people of all abilities can learn new skills, strengthen their social networks, and contribute valued products to our local economy.

We offer horticulture and farm skills training, internships to people with developmental disabilities, environmental and gardening education, and micro-enterprise opportunities on a roughly four-acre urban organic farm in Santa Cruz, CA.

Taking care to make our farm as physically accessible as possible, we will accommodate those who use mobility aids, have sensory integration challenges, or otherwise have difficulty accessing most farm or riparian settings.
