Volunteer at Common Roots Farm with us and get your hands in the soil while you make a meaningful impact in your community! At Common Roots Farm, people with and without disabilities participate on our urban farm, stewarding the earth using our sustainable small-scale farming methods, caring for animals, and creating friendships that sustain everyone.
We grow a variety of organic vegetables, herbs, fruit and flowers on approximately four acres right in the heart of Santa Cruz.
Volunteers are able to get involved in a variety of ways including greenhouse work, bed prep, plant out, weeding, harvesting, hedgerow and riparian maintenance, post-harvest, animal care and much more.
Our season is March through November. While these are subject to change as the season progresses, our current volunteer hours are Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays for 2 hour slots either starting at 9 or 10am. Later in the season we will open up afternoon volunteer hours and you'll be welcome to bring lunch and stay into the afternoon until 2 PM. We do not have drop-in volunteer times available or regular weekend slots. Volunteers are required to attend an orientation where we provide training for everyone. We also ask that volunteers make a commitment of 4 hours at the farm every month.
If you love getting your hands dirty, collaborating with folks of all abilities, and caring for the land that sustains you, Common Roots Farm is the place for you! We can't wait to see you out on the farm!
