Become a Support Volunteer

Our Support Volunteers are integral to the day-to-day operations of the Capital Jewish Museum and may be asked to assist with any of the roles described below. Apply Here

OVERVIEW

Visitor Services

  • Welcome visitors to the museum
  • Provide wayfinding information
  • Direct visitors to special programs and events
  • Share information about ongoing and upcoming programs, resources, and exhibitions

Special Events and Public Programs

  • Assist with setup and takedown for programs and events
  • Check in program attendees
  • Provide direction for attendees throughout an event

Office and Collections Support

  • Support various office tasks such as filing or assisting with mailings
  • Digitize records and collections

IF YOU EXCEL AT AND ENJOY

  • Fulfilling a variety of roles and being flexible
  • Pivoting from task to task
  • Having new and different experiences
  • Interacting with diverse audiences

IF YOU HAVE

  • An interest in working in a museum environment
  • A desire to meet new people
  • Strong communication skills

IF YOU ARE ABLE TO

  • Commit to at least two four-hour shifts a month (with weekend availability)
  • Handle frequent walking, standing, bending, and lifting (15 pounds or less)

ELIGIBILITY

  • All volunteer applicants must be 18 years or older.
  • All volunteers are required to pass a background check and show proof of vaccination against COVID-19.
  • All volunteers must be able to attend training sessions from March - May 2023.
  • All volunteers must be able to commit to a minimum of 2 4-hour shifts per month (with weekend availability)
  • All volunteers must be able to commit to at least one year of service (June 2023 - June 2024).

TRAINING AND EVALUATION

  • Prospective Support Volunteers are required to attend up to 16 hours of training sessions from March - May 2023.
  • All volunteers are subject to a 6-month probationary period.
  • During this period volunteers undergo two formal - at the completion of their training and 3 months into their service.
  • In addition, all volunteers undergo a formal review annually.
  • The probationary evaluations and annual review determine a volunteer’s eligibility to continue with the Capital Jewish Museum
