Join volunteers with the Maine Appalachian Trail Club (MATC) and help with some construction Fun! You can contribute to building, organizing lumber, or packaging material. The goal is to pre-build 3 privies! Join on May 13 and/or May 14.

The plan is to have these privies built on-site later this season to replace the existing privies at Frye Notch, Cranberry Stream, and Pierce Pond.

All are welcome to join on the fun, learn new skills, and help maintain the Appalachian Trail (A.T.)! A major principle of Leave No Trace Principles (LNT) is to dispose of waste properly, and to pack out what you pack in. Since visitors are not asked to pack out their poo on the A.T. (though some land managers request it), volunteers help visitors by building and maintaining privies that provide a sanitary means of composting human waste.

Please be sure to wear long pants and sturdy boots. Bring plenty of water and snacks for the day, lunch, sunscreen, bug spray, a rain jacket and personal work gloves.

Advanced registration necessary.

Mission Statement

The Appalachian Trail Conservancy’s mission is to protect, manage, and advocate for the Appalachian National Scenic Trail.

Description

Appalachian Trail (A.T.) is a project built on civic engagement. It exists because people like you step up and help out in a variety of ways, outdoors or inside. Activities can be physical (such as Trail work or boundary maintenance), creative (like contributing photography or writing), or organizational (like planning or leading activities).

Volunteers gain new skills through their work. Whether you volunteer because you enjoy time in nature, want to forge new friendships, or appreciate having a deeper connection to a place you hold in high regard, we are glad you are here.

There are a variety of ways to contribute your talents and your time.
