Are you an English or Spanish language teacher with a passion for education, people, and travel?

We are seeking volunteer English and Spanish language teachers with a passion for education, people, and travel for our global voyage departing from Japan in December 2023. Peace Boat is an international NGO building a culture of peace by connecting people across borders and creating opportunities for learning, activism and cooperation. Our teachers facilitate this by empowering our participants with the skills and confidence to use language to make these connections. While this is an unpaid position, Peace Boat covers the cost of visas, port fees, room and board.

Peace Boat's 116th Global Voyage will mainly travel around the Southern Hemisphere, visiting 21 ports in 14 countries. Highlights of the voyage include visiting Rio de Janeiro during carnival season, cruising the Patagonian Fjords, getting to know the Namib Desert, as well as the opportunity to visit Machu Picchu. About Peace Boat

Location:

Mission Statement

Peace Boat seeks to create awareness and action based on effecting positive social and political change in the world. We pursue this through the organization of global educational programmes, responsible travel, cooperative projects and advocacy activities. GET Universal Co. Ltd. is part of the Peace Boat Group, and coordinates the GET Programme on Peace Boat’s global voyages. It was established on the belief that extending communication beyond borders will help to create peace.

Description

Peace Boat is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization striving to build a culture of peace around the world by connecting people across borders and creating opportunities for learning, activism and cooperation. We achieve this through programs in which people from around the world participate in voyages on board the Peace Boat. Peace Boat works in Special Consultative Status with UNESCO, and uses the ship as a platform to promote the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. Peace Boat is also a steering group member of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), winner of the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize.

GET sees language as a communication tool, not as an academic subject or a collection of grammatical formulae and vocabulary, and aims to empower learners with the tools to communicate in international and cross-cultural situations. Spoken language is only one of many communication tools, and GET encourages its teachers to include forms of non-verbal communication in their lessons, as well as content designed to expand cultural understanding.

GET believes people have a responsibility to play an active role in global society. Increasing awareness and understanding of cultures and religions, political and economic issues, human rights, and the environment is critical to the development of a more peaceful and sustainable world. GET sees the provision of communicative language study programmes as a key mechanism for empowering people to learn more about the world through their own experiences.
