If you can imagine a world where all parents can read to their children, speak for themselves at doctor's appointments, and understand subway signs, then we need you.

Speaking Partners can serve as an in-class conversation facilitators or one-on-one conversation partners. We strengthen families through a two-generation approach to education. With our free classes, low-income parents in New York City develop the literacy and language skills they need to succeed in today's world. Our research-based curriculum also incorporates child development and parenting support to help parents boost their children's early reading, school readiness, and social-emotional growth. Literacy Partners is looking for compassionate Volunteers to help us strengthen and expand our online adult education programs. Come join us!

Description

Parents are children’s first and most important teachers. By helping parents expand their literacy and language skills, and their knowledge of child development, we are making sure that children have as strong a start in life as possible.

  • Background Check
  • Must be at least 18
  • Orientation or Training
  • 45-60 minutes/week: 30 minutes of conversation facilitation, plus time to review suggested conversation questions (sent to you in advance), or to check-in with the program supervisor.
