To provide Medicare beneficiaries and interested persons, professional and quality information and resources through individual counseling, community education, and advocacy services.
Description
What is HICAP - The Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) is designed to provide an unbiased service to help seniors decide what is best for their individual healthcare needs.
The PSA 2 AAA HICAP service is a volunteer supported program which provides assistance with Medicare concerns and helps clarify health insurance and long-term care insurance issues, including Medicare Part D, the prescription drug program.
PSA 2 HICAP is not affiliated with any insurance company or agency; nor does it sell, endorse, or recommend any specific insurance.
PSA 2 HICAP services are FREE and include community education services. Speakers are available to help make sense of Medicare, and to provide information regarding the most current Medicare programs, and issues.
PSA 2 HICAP services the Northern Counties of Shasta, Siskiyou, Modoc, Lassen, Trinity
Our goal is to have registered volunteer counselors in every county. To reach every new to Medicare and current Medicare beneficiaries in all five counties.
PSA 2 HICAP provides free training to all volunteers.

- Must be at least 25
- Orientation or Training
- Minimum of 24 hours Training and 10 hours Internship to become a registered certified counselor.
- Annual minimum of 12 hours continued training through out the year and 40 hours of counseling during one year.
